The world is changing faster than ever. Technology advances in the field of communication are rapidly increasing, but you need to know how the technology works in order to use it effectively. This course will teach you key pieces of information that will allow you to take what's available and create a digital experience that is tailored for your message. Whether it be an online or print piece, this course is designed with all aspiring communicators in mind. You will explore different areas of communication including writing, grammar, design, marketing and advertising concepts, public relations strategies and social media. It is the intention of this course to give you the confidence to take any idea and make it visual, tangible and effective. The program has three main goals: 1) Writing - To help you use writing skills for creating messages that communicate to audiences throughout the world. You will be able to write for online material like web pages, blogs and email. Also learn how to write news releases that are clear for print articles like newspapers or magazines. Learn how to write effective speeches that are persuasive in person or over the internet. 2) Grammar - To give you the tools to speak clearly and communicate effectively using grammar. You will learn how to improve your writing without having to rewrite it. You will learn how to employ specific grammatical concepts throughout your message. 3) Design - To help you create effective design concepts that will help you communicate visually with your audience. Writing-Using the word processor or note taking device of your choice, write personal messages that are 3 paragraphs long. Write them in chronological order following the writing prompts provided in the lesson material so you can follow along as each lesson is delivered. Some of the prompts will have you write a letter to someone, write a message to a friend, or create a list. You will receive feedback on your writing from people located in other countries. The feedback you will receive is from actual writing professionals in those countries. Learn from what they have to say and incorporate their suggestions when you revise your material. Writing-Write an email message using informal language for communicating with friends and family members. This email message will include graphics and text that communicate visually with the audience which is anyone who has access to an internet or cell phone connection in this world today or any time in the future. The message will be directed to someone who is of interest to you. The message will be directed to someone who is of interest to you. You will receive feedback on the writing that you send from an instructor located in another country. At the end of this lesson you will have learned how to write messages that communicate with the audience through graphics and text. Writing-Write a personal letter about your life story or circumstance as well as a question for you to answer as an assignment for the class.
